Competition Rules

Turkish Physical Society 3rd "Capturing a Physics Natural Phenomenon" Photo Contest Specifications

 

Purpose:

This competition aims to highlight the relationship between nature and science through the discovery and sharing of natural phenomena through photography. Understanding the universe begins with observing the events that occur around us and in our galaxy. This competition offers the opportunity to convey the secrets of nature through visual language.



 

Conditions of Participation:

  • Only students can participate in the competition.
  • Participation in the competition is free.
  • Each contestant can participate with a maximum of three (3) photographs.
  • Photographs must not have won an award in any competition before.
  • Photos should depict natural phenomena such as lightning, rainbows, volcanic eruptions, thunderbolts, solar eclipses, meteor showers, etc.
  • The operations that can be done on photographs are specific photographic edits such as color, sharpness, dust removal, contrast adjustments. However, it is essential that the documentary nature of the photograph is preserved.
  • Political, advertising, personal or nude photos will not be accepted.
  • Montage or collage works will not be accepted.

 

Photo Format and Dimensions:

  • JPG/JPEG format.
  • 150-300 dpi resolution and 8-12 compression quality.
  • The file size must be between 1 MB and 10 MB .
  • Photos must be at least 2400 pixels wide .

 

Naming and Description:

  • with a short title that clearly states their content or the natural event they represent .
  • The submitted photograph must be explained in a short paragraph .
  • The file name you will upload must be in the order of first name, last name, school name, without any spaces and with an underscore (_) instead of spaces.

Application and Submission:

  • Participants' contact information must be accurate and complete.
  • Competition applications and photo submissions will only be made using the specified form.
  • Other communication channels will not be accepted.

 

Copyright and Usage:

  • All rights of the submitted photographs belong to the participant.
  • Participants allow the Turkish Physics Association to use the photographs they submit by stating their names in events, printed materials, on the website and on social media accounts.
  • If photographs are used for commercial purposes, prior permission will be obtained from the photo owners.

 

Selection and Evaluation:

  • The winners of the competition will be determined by the Photography Competition Selection Committee.

 

Exhibitions and Awards:

  • Participants' photographs will be exhibited at the TFD 10th Physics Students Congress and Festival.
  • The winners of the competition will be determined by the Photography Competition Selection Committee.
  • The awards will be presented to the winners during the congress and will not be sent by cargo afterwards. Participants who are entitled to receive an award must be physically present at the congress in order to receive their awards. The awards of participants whose photographs are successful but who are not present at the congress will be given to the candidates on the reserve list.
